Austin Community College students and employees can obtain a subscription to Microsoft Office 365 at no charge.
Microsoft 365 (formerly Office) offers students and employees access to the Microsoft suite of applications including: Outlook; Word; Excel; PowerPoint; OneNote; SharePoint; Teams; Class Notebook; Sway; Forms; Stream.
Office 365 is the cloud-based version of the Microsoft Office software package, which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and other applications. It can be installed on up to five compatible PCs or Macs, plus up to five tablets or personal devices that meet the minimum operating system requirements:
- PCs and tablets running Windows: Windows 7 or higher
- Macs: OS X 10.6 or higher
- iPads: iOS 7.0 or higher
Because the software is offered through Microsoft, ACC will not provide installation assistance or ongoing support. Microsoft offers phone and online chat support. Also, the software is not intended to replace Google email or Google Apps. Gmail remains ACC’s email system.

Office 365 for Education combines the familiar Office Web Apps from Live@edu and gives students the ability to access additional services such as Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and Lync Online. With Office 365, students will have free email, sites, online document editing and storage, IM, and web conferencing. For more details, see the links below:
If Accessing Office 365 for the First Time
If this is your first attempt to access your Office 365 account, please follow the steps below:
- Go to myBSU and click on Student Email
- In Internet Explorer, open an InPrivate browser session.
- Log on to Office 365 using these steps:

- Right-click the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop or Start menu, and then click Start InPrivate Browsing.
- Type in student email address (example: doej0911@students.bowiestate.edu)
- Enter your live@edu password/bulldog connect password
Do not copy the student email/username or the password and paste into the portal. Doing so may cause issues.
After several attempts and you have not accessed your account, please click the Can’t access your account? link. This link is located under the “Sign in” button. Please follow the steps indicated by Microsoft to reset your password.
Once you complete the password reset, you will receive a temporary password which will be sent to your alternate email account that you were instructed to provide on the Microsoft portal.
(Note: Temporary passwords are valid for 90 days. Once you have successfully signed in with your temporary password, you can create new passwords by following the instructions on the sign in page.)

Students with Identified Access Issues
All technical challenges previously identified have been resolved. As of today, DIT and Microsoft resolved the password issues of students who identified access issues with their Office 365 account.
Should students find themselves with an error or a message that states their account is blocked please follow the steps below:
Free Student Software Downloads Microsoft
First, make sure you are navigating to the correct URLs and signing in with your user name and Office 365 password. Here are the URLs that you can use:
- Outlook Web App: https://www.outlook.com<domain>, http://mail.office365.com/, or a custom URL set up by your administrator.
- Office 365: https://portal.microsoftonline.com/
If you see one of the following error messages, your browser may be caching your sign-in credentials:
- 'You're currently signed in with an Office 365 email account, which can't be used with Outlook.com. Please click here to sign out of your Office 365 account, then use another Microsoft account to sign in to Outlook.com (for example, your hotmail.com, live.com, or msn.com account).'
- 'Sorry, that didn't work. This doesn't look like a valid user ID. Make sure you typed the user ID assigned to you by the organization. It usually looks like someone@students.bowiestate.edu or someone@studentbowiestate.onmicrosoft.com.'
Do not copy the student email/username or the password and paste into the portal. Doing so may cause issues.
Try one of the following:
- Click Sign in with a different user ID, and then enter your Office 365 user name and password again.
- Close all open browsers and start a new browser session.
- Try a different web browser or computer.
- In Internet Explorer, open an InPrivate browser session.
- Right-click the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop or Start menu, and then click Start InPrivate Browsing.
- Clear your browser's cache and cookies:

- In Internet Explorer, click the Tools icon, and then click Internet Options.
- On the General tab, under Browsing history, click Delete.
- In the Delete Browsing History dialog box, select Temporary Internet files, click Delete, and then click OK.
- Close and then reopen the browser.
